Las Vegas, which is Spanish for "the Meadows", had it's beginning in 1904, when the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad laid its tracks through the Las Vegas Valley. The Railroad purchased prime land, bought the water rights and surveyed a town site for its railroad servicing and repair facilities.

When the government appropriated $165 million for the Boulder Canyon Project in 1928, Las Vegas received its first wave of residents. Thousands came to build the world's largest gravity dam, 40 miles from Las Vegas, now known as the Hoover Dam. Hoover Dam is 727 feet (70 stories) high and 660 feet thick. It has created Lake Mead, the largest man-made lake in the country.

By the early 1940s, downtown Las Vegas had several luxury hotels and a dozen successful gambling clubs. This soon grew to what is now the Las Vegas Strip.

Although a lot of people equate Las Vegas with 'shows' and 'games', it has something to offer for everyone. From Limousine Tours to 'Dude Ranch' adventures, there are hundreds of things to see and do.

Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston are two of local areas to explore. Or, for an adrenaline rush, ride "The Desperado"-- a thrilling roller coaster ride with a 225ft drop and reaching speeds of up to 90 mph.

With over 60 Golf Courses in the Las Vegas area, even the most enthusiastic golfer won't be be able to play them all.
