From Playa del Carmen, you can easily visit Tulum. Perched dramatically on seaside cliffs, Tulum was the only ancient Mayan city to be built directly on the coast.

Look for toucans in the trees and swim at the pristine beach here or at nearby Xel-Ha, an azure lagoon straight out of a desert island fantasy.

The historic village of Tulum is a mere 45 minutes by bus. Cozumel, where one can enjoy excellent diving, is just 30 minutes by boat.

The main activities of Playa del Carmen are reduced to swimming, tanning, snorkeling, diving and eating. The main street, Quinta Avenida, is lined with coffee bars, shops and traditional restaurants. You may also enjoy a walk to Xaman-Ha, where you will find exotic birds.
