Silver Star, with its brightly coloured architecture styled to the "Victorian gaslight era" is an attractive vacation resort. Many trail names reflect the area's mining history or echo its name: Lone Star, Milky Way, Constellation and Big Dipper are all easy cruising runs in Vance Creek.
Silver Star's Main Street is a pedestrian-only promenade featuring several restaurants, pubs, boutiques, child care, and ski shop services. Check out the G-scale model train that runs the perimeter of the Craigellachie Dining Room and Restaurant.
The fully integrated trail systems of Sovereign Lake and Silver Star Mountain Resort make for a network of over 100 kilometres of cross country ski trails. These are immaculately groomed and track-set trails wrapping around the entire mountain. There are trails for every level, and some of them are lit for night skiing. Early November begins the Nordic Festival Month at Silver Star. August 2002 marked the first ever Summer Wine Festival at Silver Star.
For something more sedate try a night-time skate around the one-hectare skating pond with the music playing or take a ride through the village in a horse-drawn carriage.
In the village, The National Altitude Training Centre includes a gym, indoor climbing wall and Teen Centre.
Tube Town provides the fun of Alpine Tubing in a safe and controlled environment. No need to hike up the hill as there is a tube lift, with truck-size inner tubes with safety handles. Snowmobiling and Snowshoeing tours are other popular ways to to enjoy the winter wonderland at Silver Star. In summertime, there is a horseback riding stable within a one minute walk of the village.
