Volcano Golf and Country Club, an 18 hole, par 72 course designed by Jack Snyder, is atop an active volcano. For a time every year, the surrounding ohia turn scarlet when in bloom. Fairways are carved from lava---and a bad stroke can result in your ball being lost down a steam vent.
Volcano is located just outside the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Park Rangers guide visitors to the best vantage points for lava viewing.
Everything in the Volcanoes National Park is protected by law. When touring, light layered clothing, a rainproof jacket and a good pair of walking shoes are recommended. At the Thomas A. Jaggar Museum, you can educate yourself on past and present volcanology of the park.
Volcano's Art Center showcases the work of local photographers, artists and crafts-persons, and features cultural artifacts made from native woods.
