Wailua Rental Guide

Wailua, Hawaii Wailua, Hawaii ID#122920 Wailua, Hawaii

The Wailua resort area is located a few miles from Lihue and the main airport on Kauai. Fed by 40 feet of rain annually, the Wailua River snakes through Kauai's east side to the spectacular Wailua Falls.

Wailua is located on the eastern coast of the island of Kauai. This resort is situated between Kapaa and Lihue along Highway 56. It rests on the banks of the Wailua River near the Wailua Reservoir and Wailua Falls.

The first migratory Tahititans supposedly landed at the mouth of the Wailua River. Sacred temples once stretched from the mouth of the river to the peak of Mount Waialeale. The navigable portion of the river is called the King's Highway.

A popular river trip is to Fern Grotto. The Grotto is a huge rock amphitheater, whose ever misty walls create the perfect conditions for ferns to grow. The ferns fill the cavern with their deep musty smell and penetrating green beauty. This natural cathedral has wonderful acoustics and is a popular location for weddings.

Add to your understanding of the roots of Hawaiian life by visiting Kamokila, Kauai's only re-created folk village, situated at a bend in the Wailua River. A guide escorts you around the village and explains the methods of creating handicrafts and tools, the use of ordinary and medicinal plants, and how the village operated on a daily basis.

By staying at a vacation rental home in Hawaii, visitors can experience the more every day side of the Islands and live a bit like a local.
