We have stayed in Playa del Sol every year since it opened, and have stayed in 5 different units, including this one. The two bedroom plus den/two bath unit works very well for us, a couple travelling with our adult daughter, her friend, and our small dog. This unit was well located for taking the dog outside easily, as well as for bringing in luggage, groceries, etc. from the parking area.
The condition of this unit was average or a little below average in terms of the units we've stayed in. Two that we've stayed in have been much more updated, and one was in similar condition. (The other was new the years we stayed in it, so I'm not counting that one.) This unit is starting to show quite a bit of wear, which is not surprising, given that the building is popular with vacationers and has been open for 9 years now. This was not really a big problem for us and didn't interfere with our enjoyment of the place, except for one issue. There was a limited number of plates and dinner-sized forks. We had our cousins over for dinner one night and had to buy paper plates so that we could set the table for 7.
If the supplies were updated a little, I would rate the unit a 5. The manager was very pleasant to deal with, and check-in/check-out was easy. She was also very considerate of us when she needed to bring a repair person in for a minor issue.
As usual, we didn't use the pool or hot tub, because it is overrun with kids from the moment the pool deck opens until the moment it closes. This is not the fault of the unit manager or owners, of course. However, we wish every year that there were some times of the day (maybe an hour in the morning and two at night) that were adult-only times, at least in the hot tub. Otherwise, we clearly love the building, due to its location - close to the beach and the Mission Creek Greenway.
