We finally arrived in Radium after a long 6-½ hour drive up, at 2:30 pm, and decided to swing by the condo to see if it was ready – but when I entered the condo it looked as if the previous renters had just departed. My sister and I, along with my 3 and 6-year-old children killed time until our 4:00 pm check-in by driving into Invermere to buy groceries for dinner that night and stock up on some supplies. Upon our return to the condo at 4:30 pm, we were shocked that in the 2 hours we were away, nothing had been cleaned.
I tried to contact the owner – but no answer. I tried the owner’s husband’s number – no answer. I sent the owner an email – no response. My sister and I began to look for cleaning rags, products and a vacuum to clean the condo ourselves so that we could have somewhere to sleep that night, to no avail – as there was nothing in the condo to clean with.
In our search for cleaning supplies, we were disheartened and disgusted by the condition of the condo. Both bathrooms were filthy - hair on the toilet seat, toothpaste in the sink, trash left in garbage bins, mirrors smeared, etc. There was debris all over the wood and carpeted floors. The dishwasher was full of grimy, smelly, unwashed dishes. The coffee pot was empty, but left on. The countertops and stovetop were splattered and crusted with food. The inside of the fridge was not cleaned of drips and debris. The kitchen itself offered very, very basic utensils and equipment - a few small pots & pans, knives with broken tips, minimal kitchen tools. The dining room table and chairs were dirty and quite weathered. In the living area the couches were covered in crumbs of food, and the coffee and end table were terribly scratched. The beds in both rooms were not set, and the linens just strewn around the room. There were limited clean bed linens, bath towels and dishrags left over for our use. The ensuite showerhead was missing a spout plate, so when turned on, the water just spurted everywhere. Numerous rooms’ blinds were broken and could only be drawn up or down, and not open or shut to sunlight or for privacy. And to top it all off - the laundry room was repulsive because the floor was mounded with soiled laundry; full, rancid trash bags littered about; and pungent empty bottles left in there.
We contacted the final number provided – the owners brother-in-law, who was apologetic and helpful in connecting us with the owner. Together, they found a cleaning team who came out and cleaned the condo fairly promptly. However, this forced us back out of the condo and having to kill even more time. Despite having bought groceries to make dinner that night, we ended up having to go to a nearby diner for dinner as it was well past suppertime and my children were tired and hungry. After dinner, the cleaners were still at the condo, so we sat in our car in the parking lot while my kiddos rested. I finally went in to check the progress at 8:30 pm, and the cleaners were just finishing up. By the time we unpacked the rest of our things and set our stuff up, it was well past 9:00 pm.
In speaking with the owner’s about this horrible experience and additional expenses and time wasted, we were offered a measly $75 refund or 1 free night on our next stay – which will NEVER happen. To have to go through all of this stress and trouble, with 2 young children in tow, and not even be compensated a full night’s rent is absurdly outrageous!!! I will never stay here again and will certainly not be recommending this rental to any family or friends! Future renters please BEWARE!!!
Stayed with family - Would not recommend to friends and family
