The villa was in a fabulous location, beautiful views and spacious. The owners were friendly, available and really tried to make good once we raised issues but regretfully our visit was spoiled by lack of communication, things just not being as advertised and lack of attention/thought to this as a holiday business. We were told on arrival that the washing machine was broken, and it was replaced 6 days later. As a large family who had travelled from another holiday location first, we were relying on washing on arrival. The electricity was terrible so that if only one thing was used (kettle or cooker or dishwasher) and house lights were on, it tripped so we had problems even cooking a pizza. We had a hornets nest on the inside of a shutter of one child's bedroom rendering the room useless. We were assured they would go away if shutters were left open but then a hornet still managed to get in the bedroom. This was only properly dealt with on 3rd or 4th day of our weeks stay. There were 2 other large hornets nests in the home windows higher up which meant many in the immediate vicinity, including outside the kitchen so you needed to be careful with doors open. We are keen to protect wildlife, however if you have allergies or anxieties, babies or young children, this was a real and dangerous problem. We could not see any online evidence that destroying nests in homes is prohibited in Italy. You absolutely needed a car as the house is a good 15-20 minute drive on treacherous hairpins from amenities, though a 15 minute walk from a great restaurant and buses were reliable though only 3 a day. This needs to be clear to people before booking. We understand Italy countryside can be challenging, but then tell people beforehand as they may not be able to cope with this. We were disappointed to find no information about nearest medical facilities, pharmacist, bins and disposal, instructions for electricity, sites of interest etc or warning that you needed to buy things before arrival as nearest shop a difficult drive of 20 mins away. There was no visitor book or welcoming pack that we have had in other villas through owners direct like wine, or cake or basics like a few dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid to tide us over. Spare pillows would be nice (only one per person) though beds comfy. Though the hosts greeted us and gave verbal instructions, after a tiring journey these are easy to forget so written back up would be useful. Overall, this could be a lovely villa but some serious improvements need making given that this is a holiday that people have looked forward to and saved for. We do not usually write poor reviews, and do so in the hope that changes will be made and other families don't have similar experience in a promising location.
