The house is extremely comfortable and energy efficient with warm cedar walls throughout, and a great wood burning fireplace/heater (we supply the wood - don't worry there's electric heat too). The inviting living/dining rooms have recently updated furniture and lots of space for everyone to relax after a day's activities. It is a great spot to snuggle up with a good book or play board games (we have lots for sharing), but for the technology addicted, there is also satellite TV (tons of channels, including sports), CD/DVD player, and free wireless internet. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a good supply of condiments and spices to get you started. The bedrooms provide comfortable accommodation for 6 adults or 2 families with their children under 16. No-one needs to sleep on a sofabed in the living room! As the cabin is about 30 yrs old, there is only one bathroom, but we have a huge hot water tank and everyone has fun sharing! There is ample off street parking and lots of room inside to store skis, snowboards, boots and skates. This family owned cabin gets lots of use and TLC. We go out of our way to make our few guests feel welcome and at home.

The new bedroom has great views through its picture window along with a smaller window on each side wall. Each of the other bedrooms also received new windows, making them brighter and compliant with Provincial fire codes. We removed the old wood burner and replaced it with modern propane heat to take the chill off on a cool summer evening. We expanded the kitchen by installing all new cabinets, counter tops, and a breakfast bar. And we brought it into the 21st century by adding a dishwasher, a stacked washer/dryer unit, and a water filtration system. And what would a new kitchen be without a new bath?! We replaced the toilet, sink, vanity, and flooring. All of the additions necessitated upgrading the plumbing and the electrical system throughout. We finished with new flooring, a new ceiling treatment, a fresh coat of paint, new furniture, and all new curtains, linens, and bedding.

    The house, according to the owners from 1978 to 2010, was originally designed not by an architect but by a Danish draftsman. We love the layout which permits ocean views from every room and almost every spot in the house. We love the clear cedar planking used extensively in the vaulted ceilings of the great rooms, the dining room, kitchen and bedrooms. We renovated the house in 2017 - installing new flooring, updating the hardwood floors, updating the bathrooms, installing new appliances and counter tops in the kitchen, new ceder decks and rails and updating the landscaping. This is almost a brand new home. The size and orientation of the property provides a particularly private, quiet and scenic setting. We love the views directly across Cowichan Bay to Genoa Bay and Separation Point and to the east the southern tip of Salt Spring Island. From any of the decks on the house a person can watch all the activity going on in the bay. Fishing boats, sailing regattas, whale watching boats and large yachts passing by. A favourite feature of the house is the patio on the lowest level. It provides a fabulous all weather place to sit and watch the ocean and stars during the evening. We call it the Scotch and Cigar Deck - we do permit cigars on this deck. The climate at Cowichan Bay is always nice – even during the rainy and cooler months of Dec to April. Cowichan Valley is commonly referred to as the “Warm Lands” as the weather in the valley during the June to October months is gloriously warm and sunny. The Cherry Point Marina is a private marina located a few hundred yards to the west of the property. It is our preferred place to keep our boat. It’s a well protected harbour and space is usually available. There is a public boat ramp and marina in Cowichan Bay - about a 5 minute drive from the house. Next to the marina is Cowichan Bay village and is a popular lunch spot. The Rock Cod Café or the Cow Bay Pub are our favourite dining spots. For a treat we like to grab ice cream cones at the Udder Guys ice cream shop.
