Past the plaza you will find local shopping, the market, where you can find unique Greek items with many being made right in Greece. Syros is known as the "hub" for business of the Islands as it has the highest population of permanent residents. On the other side of the plaza you will find the heart of the island, the Port. The Island Milos is an island of the western Cyclades famous for the classical statue of Venus (Aphrodite), its numerous startling beaches and unique rock formations. The area of Phylakopi is a fertile small valley at the northern part of the island where various prehistoric cities repeatedly flourished between 3000 and 1000 BC. Milos is proud of having more than 72 beaches. Some of the nicest ones are close by. You may enjoy long walks around the area, or if you have your own transportation means you may easily visit all interesting spots of Milos. Boat tours around the island are a big attraction you should not miss. Other activities include Sailing, Diving, Sea kayaking, Windsurfing, Geo Walks, Wine tasting. To get to Phylakopi from Adamas (main port) or the Airport (11km) you may use public buses, a taxi or your own vehicle. There is public transportation from the port to the main town Ioulis, and taxis, but it's necessary to rent a car to go to the beaches and visit the island.You can rent a car (or a motor bike) either at the Athens International Airport or at the island . The Roukounas Hill, (Fotimari) as is the name of the location is a peaceful place where you can rest, surrounded by beautiful landscape, overlooking the sea, away from the busy port or the main town, where you can also combine night life in the nearby Vourkari and/or Ioulis or the port. The kitchen has all you need, the bathroom is small but complete. Wooden stairs lead to the first and second flour where you find a bedroom with two single beds and a large attic bedroom with a double-bed.     In the middle of wildness and lonelyness of the island-nature the cottage is in a wide valley, and only 5km distanced from the main town or next sand beach. You can reach the house by a 100m footpath and some stone steps which lead up to the entrance. The house is kept in a clean and personal style. It has a huge terasse with a wonderful view into the pure greek mother-nature. All windows have mosquito nets. Your own car or car rental (or motorbike) is necessary which is easily found on the island. By arrival a set of clean linen, towels and a housecleaning before arrival and after departure are in the price included. From the harbour to the house you will be escorted. Children and animals are welcome!!!
