Where to Stay & Why - Whether youre a couple, a small or a big family, a group of friends or colleagues, someone who travels with or without a pet - we're sure that there are accommodations here that you can call your home-away-from-home. Do you need just one room and one bathroom? Or maybe more? Take your pick, because the vacation rentals and condo rentals sleep from two guests and up. Theres a living room with a flat-screen TV and cable, DVD player (and DVDs, of course), stereo, a very comfortable couch and chair(s). Board games and books are also available in some of the rentals that you can enjoy during your stay. You can also just do your screen time by connecting to the free WiFi while relaxing in front of the fireplace. Want to make snacks or a meal for yourself or everyone? Head to the fully-equipped kitchen or your own outdoor space by the deck/patio/backyard where you can fire up the BBQ grill while enjoying the panoramic views. Aside from that, some other amenities that the accommodations have are laundry facilities, air conditioning, swimming pool, hot tub, parking space, a dock, garage to hide your golf gear and beach toys. Some even provide bicycles, hairdryer, bath and beach towels, lawn chairs and coolers to feel exactly at home during your stay!
What to See & Do - Skiing, boating, and swimming are favorite activities on Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake, which is more than 80 miles long and are bordered by numerous hiking trails. There are also a lot of wineries within driving distance from Penticton, which is a central location for the spring and fall wine festivals.
Make family memories at Loco Landing with activities like mini-golf, go-karts, bumper boats, and rock climbing. Fly high for an eagles eye view of the city, lakes, and mountains on Southwestern Skies sightseeing tour. Explore the Okanagan Lakeshore with a narrated cruise aboard the Casabella Princess. Stroll among the flowers at the Penticton Rose Garden or, at the other end of Okanagan Beach, the tranquil confines of Ikeda Japanese Garden. While in the neighborhood, stop for a snack at the landmark Peach on the Beach. Head out on a circle drive and take in the historic sites of Okanagan Falls, the otherworldly sights of the Dominion Astrophysical Radio Observatory, and the calm confines of Linden Gardens. Grab a bottle from the local wineries and roadside fruit stands to bring home a taste of Pentictons bountiful harvest.
In winter, the snow is deep and dry in the highlands around Penticton, and your best bet is to spend some time up at the local ski hill, Apex Mountain Resort.
Where to Eat & Drink - There are hundreds of places to eat in Penticton, servicing pretty much any taste or budgets like Dream Cafe or Saltys Beach House. If you love breakfast, there are all-day breakfast chains like The Pantry or Dennys. Since Penticton lies in the heart of the Okanagan wine country, grab a bottle and pair it with your meal in and out of the home rental or for a change of taste, try an ale or lager produced by one of Pentictons three micro-breweries.
How to Get Here & Getting Around - If youre arriving by air, youll most likely be flying into the Penticton Regional Airport which is only 10 minutes from Downtown Penticton. Theres also the Kelowna International Airport, which is 1.5 hours away and features air service between other major destination. By car, Highway 97 is the major north-south route through the city and is just a 40-minute drive south of Kelowna. Either way, your short duration of travel will be scenic and relaxing.
If you want the flexibility to enjoy your travels, having a vehicle is the way to go! Renting or having your car lets you establish your own schedule for sightseeing and assists you in getting around. There are also taxis, shuttle services, transit systems, and Greyhound Canada to get anyone around.
When to Go - The hot, dry summer (especially July and August) is peak season and weekends can get crowded. May and June are quieter, and most wineries are open, so either month can be a good alternative to the midsummer peak. However, September just might be the best time for an Okanagan wine-tasting trip.
