Hauula is a small town located on Oahu's northeastern shore, about 30mi (48 km) north of Honolulu. In the Hawaiian language, Hauula means red hau (hau is a type of tree, the Hibiscus tiliaceus). In the past, sugarcane was grown in the area around Hauula, along the narrow coastal plain inland from the highway. This is the perfect setting to showcase the beautiful holiday lodging and accommodations. These range from charming condo rentals to luxurious vacation rentals.
There is a small commercial center, with a few shops and a supermarket in the town's center. Hauula and the surrounding area have several beach parks, including Hauula Beach Park, Kakela Beach Park, Aukai Beach Park and Mahakea Beach. Choose from many town center accommodation options or beach front vacation rental or condo rental options.
Hauula Beach Park, which fronts Kamehameha Highway, is a straight and narrow stretch (about 1,000 ft. long), shaded by kamani and ironwood trees. An offshore reef protects the waters off the beach, but the shallow and rocky bottom make the area unsafe for swimming. Snorkeling is good along the edge of the coral reef, and fishing for papio and goatfish can be fruitful. Picnic and camping facilities are available.
Hauula is about 40 miles from Diamond Head by way of the coastal Kamehameha Highway with incredible mountain and ocean scenery all along the way and accommodation and vacation rental choices along the way. Some of the main attractions include a small town, fringing reef and protected shoreline offering some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving on Oahu. The sandy beaches with small fresh water streams from the valleys are surrounded by beautiful beachfront grassy public parks perfect for the whole family. Kayaking here is at its finest and for nature lovers there are great hiking trails in the nearby beautiful mountain ranges.
Just away is 2.9mi is Punalu'u Beach Park is the most famous black sand beach on the island. This black sand beach is the most expansive and most accessible black sand beach on the Big Island. This is a perfect place to enjoy the scenery, explore the black sand beach, watch the sea turtles, and swim or snorkel. You can also spread out a blanket under a towering coconut tree for a midday picnic or afternoon siesta, or sit for hours watching the action in the park's beautiful freshwater fish pond.
In Laie, 3.3 mi away, is Laie Point (also known as Laniloa Point), a prominent lithified dune jutting out into the ocean. To reach it, go toward the water from Kamehameha Highway onto Anemoku Street. Then turn right and follow Napaka Street to the end. Two other lithified dunes (Kukuihoolua and Mokualai) lie just offshore as scenic islets. Laie Beach Park, Hukilau Beach and Pounders Beach are located nearby.
Not only is Hauula, naturally beautiful with spectacular accommodations and vacation rentals to suit all visitors.
