The villa itself was great. It was well equipped and met all our needs - a full-size fridge and washer and dryer as well as full-size stove. Kitchen and linens were more than adequate.
We found the location far too noisy; however it was Spring Break, Holy Week and International Motorcycle Week while we were there. This is the perfect location for partiers and those who don't sleep while on vacation. With the constant roar of traffic, dueling Mariachi bands (tubas are particularly loud at 2 a.m.), singing from surrounding bars and foot traffic to the hot dog stands right outside our villa wall we got little to no sleep each night.
We did access the beach by going through the hotels, etc. Again, because of the time we vacationed, it was very, very busy and not too relaxing. Great people watching, though.
Because there are only 10 villas, the pool is fairly small but would have been a quiet oasis at any other time of year. There were few chairs, etc. at the pool and we found we were crowded out by large families and loud boom-boxes competing with each other.
I've waited for some time to write this review as I am still waiting for my security deposit refund. When contacted, the owner indicated that he was waiting for his electric and gas bill to deduct our usage from the deposit. I had to look quite far into the villa information to find that we would be charged for electric and gas - it wasn't very clear as it stated that the charges were for monthly rentals. These charges should be indicated on the same page as the rental costs.
In reading the comments by this vacationer regarding La Quinta Villa, I have decided to give an owner's comment. First, take note that despite her issues with her vacation, she states "the villa itself was great". Coming from someone who had a lot to say that probably says something. Sometimes a place looks better in the pictures than once actually seen. This is not the case here, we have taken many measures to make sure that our villa is comfortable, clean, and inviting, with pretty much all the ammenities you would need in a beach house. This is especially true since the villa's main purpose is to make our family comfortable; that comfort extends to your family. Our villa is located across the street from the beach, in the Golden Zone. It is ideal and convenient for vacationers who enjoy walking to the beach, renting catamarans, going to restaurants and eateries on the beach, stores and so forth. This means there will be other human beings present. You might even bump into them twice in one week at a cafe and make a new friend--this is not an isolated mountain cabin, away from two legged creatures.
Please note that vacationing to a popular spot on Spring Break, as this vacationer did, will innevitably cause you to see a few more vacationers than otherwise. I need not explain why. Vacationers who want silence, probably should not vacation to Mazatlan nor to many other resorts during Spring Break.
The electric and gas bill comment from this vactioner is missplaced and could tend to show that it was something "hidden". This is not the case. Electricity and gas charges apply to greater than one week rentals which receive discounted rates. In fact, this particular vacationer rented for 14 nights and was given a nice discount on the rates. For some reason she did not notice that she was responsible to pay for the electricity and gas that she and her guests would use, until after she returned home from her vacation. There is no reason to doubt this, as she kept the central air on 24/7 whether the villa was occupied or not. This goes to character! Why would you leave the central air unit on when no one is in the house? When I go to hotels and pay much more than what I rent our 1800 sqare foot villa for, as a common practice to not be wastefull, furn off the air conditioner, regardless of the fact that it is included in the bill.
Not everyone is going to think the same, vacation the same, nor have the same character traits. In our 6 years of renting to guests, we have pretty much got to know some great people. I have been vacationing in Mexico for about 30 and am well aware of vacation rentals in Mexico and I am sure vacationer will find our villa a nice place to stay.
