Poipu Beach Rental Guide

Poipu Beach, Hawaii Poipu Beach, Hawaii Poipu Beach, Hawaii

Poipu Beach is just 20 minutes from the Lihue Airport, situated on the sunniest side of the island where it rains less frequently than the more tropical parts. Poipu is quite desert-like despite the palm trees, fields and other vegetation. This area is the primary tourism destination of south Kauai and this small town offer a slow-paced, friendly look at old Hawaii. Vacation rentals abound in Poipu Beach and there are many other Kauai vacation home rentals too.

The Poipu area is a series of golden sand crescent beaches strung together. Surf spots are slightly off-shore where a reef establishes perfect wave-breaks for beginner, intermediate and advanced surfers. Nearer to the shore, enjoy swimming or snorkeling in calm waters. There is also a natural kiddy pool, perfect for toddlers.

Poipu Beach has a semi-arid tropical climate. The Haupu Mountain range blocks most prevailing showers (which are usually brief). The average annual rainfall in Poipu is 34 inches. In the winter, temperatures range from the mid 70's to the lower 80's, cooling to the 60's at night. In the summer the prevailing trade winds provide a natural cooling effect with daytime temperatures in the upper 80's, and night time, in the low 70's.

Poipu is home to the famous Spouting Horn - an underwater lava tunnel causes a pressure system which forces an immense spray of ocean water to shoot high in the air. The Poipu area has Botanical Gardens, the Koloa History Centre and the Koloa Farmer's Market. Old Koloa Town is the oldest plantation town in Hawaii.

On our Poipu Beach map, some popular beaches nearby include:

  • Shipwreck's Beach, where the waters are best for advanced surfers.
  • Mahaulepu Beach which is popular with wind surfers.
  • Baby Beach, a protected cove perfect for very young children.
  • Lawai Beach, a delightful snorkeling spot, and Brennecke's Beach.

Visitors here can find horseback riding, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, tennis, biking, fishing, sailing, diving and surfing, as well as two well-designed championship golf courses. Shopping can be found at the popular Kukui Grove Shopping Center and in the quaint and delightful villages of Poipu and Old Koloa Town.
