Known as “the green heart of Italy” for its hilly countryside and continued use of old world Italian traditions, the region has a variety of vacation rental accommodations perfect for exploring the area. Whether visitors prefer to stay in condo rentals, small or large villa rentals or another accommodation option, there is a variety of vacation rentals available. Umbertide is one of the larger towns of Umbria and is unusual for its relatively flat landscape compared to the rest of the mountainous region. The medieval town was founded in the 10th century and is both charming and interesting with some medieval houses, villas and buildings still being used today. Umbertide is made up of ancient brick buildings and provides a chance to stay in an old world villa rental or condo rental, with simple to luxury accommodation options.

There are three main churches to visit in Umbertide but the most well known is the 16th century brick S. Maria Della Reggia which dates back to late medieval and renaissance times. Overlooking the town is La Rocca, a fortress built in 1385 to help protect the Tiber River. Five kilometers out of town is the castle of Civitella Raiera, one of the best preserved medieval fortresses in Umbria and is well worth a visit. Umbertide is also located close to the walled medieval village of Borgo Santa Giuliana which makes a wonderful day trip.

Surrounded by beautiful sprawling countryside, Umbertide is a wonderful combination of medieval and modern architecture. Visit in the spring to see the countryside explode with wildflowers of all colours or in the summer to witness the countryside covered in sunflowers to harvest for cooking oil. Located on the Tiber River, Umbertide provides a peaceful holiday destination but is large enough to have a variety of vacation rental accommodations and many other amenities. Umbertide has a variety of restaurants to choose from and most vacation rentals are located in town, close to the various amenities. Villa rentals with kitchens provide the opportunity to dine in as well.
