Costa Rica, officially called the Republic of Costa Rica, is a small country known to be a great travel destination. Costa Rica is actually bound by Nicaragua on the northern side, Panama on the southern part, Pacific Ocean to its west and by the Caribbean Sea on the eastern side.

There are just too many reasons why Costa Rica is a favorite travel destination all around the world. But mainly, it is because there is a wide variety of flowers and animals found in the many forests in the area. It has plenty of national parks and protected areas where you can find endangered animal and plant species. Visiting this country will take you to the natural wonders and beauty of the earth as you encounter species of animals and plants that you only get to see in encyclopedias.

Other reasons for visiting this country are the world famous beaches found both on the Pacific and Caribbean shores bordering the country. It is also home to a few beautiful and active volcanoes which can be visited safely.

Costa Rica was listed as one of the top travel destinations by Ethical Traveler Magazine in the year 2011 and was also listed in the 2012 list entitled The Developing Worlds 10 Best Ethical Destinations.

During the early 1990s, the country was established as a poster child of ecotourism because about half of the tourist visitors do engage in ecotourism activities such as bird watching, visiting the rural communities, trekking and others, without leaving a trace or affecting nature.

Heres another reason why you should visit Costa Rica. The country is the number 1 in America in the 2010 Environmental Performance Index and the third in the entire world. Take note of that. That says a lot about what you will get to experience when you take a tour in this beautiful paradise. The New Economics Foundation or NEF listed Costa Rica as the happiest country in the world, both in the years 2009 and 2012. NEF furthermore listed Costa Rica as the greenest country in the world.

You might be living in a highly urbanized area somewhere in a modernized country, so visiting Costa Rica will certainly expand your horizon. In fact, take a vacation here to be refreshed and become one with nature. There are plenty of species and kinds of flora, fauna, culture, climates, landscapes, sceneries, mountains, rain forests, tropical forests, volcanoes, world famous beaches in the Pacific and Caribbean Seas, rivers, marshy lowlands and much more. A river located at the Tenorio Volcano National Park called the Celeste River is known to be one of the most famous tourist spots in the country because of its natural beauty and the clear blue lake in it.

The climate in Costa Rica is tropical all year round. There are two seasons in the country during the year, the dry or summer season and the rainy season known locally as winter season.
